What killed the last generation

Kippa reached 500,000 Nigerian businesses on $14m of funding and died. Adoption was never the constraint — payment was, and manual data entry drove the churn underneath it.

Every survivor of that cohort now bundles bookkeeping with credit or payments rather than selling it alone.

What is genuinely new

A language model can do the bookkeeping without the user doing data entry — parsing a Twi or Pidgin voice note, an SMS payment alert, or a photograph of a paper ledger.

That removes the single largest reason this category churned. It is the clearest example in the catalog of AI making a previously-dead product viable.

How it must be sold

Not to merchants one at a time. The realistic route is selling into an existing agent or point-of-sale network that already owns the relationship — distribution cost is what kills this category, not product quality.
