ExamPrep
Practice questions on WhatsApp, with the explanation spoken in Twi.
Built for JHS2 and JHS3 students preparing for the BECE
The problem
The BECE decides whether a child enters senior high school. Private tuition is the usual remedy and costs money most families do not have.
Existing WhatsApp tutors work well — in English, which is the barrier for exactly the students furthest behind.
How it works
One question at a time, chosen by what the student has and has not mastered. Answer, then get the worked explanation — never before an attempt.
Ask for it in Twi and the explanation arrives as a voice note. Questions stay in English, because the exam is in English.
What we will test honestly
The bet is that a spoken Twi explanation teaches more than re-reading English. The pilot randomises Twi audio against English audio — equal effort — and if under 15% of sessions request Twi by week six, the language premium is unproven and we say so.
Safeguarding
Users are 13 to 16. There is no open-ended chat: a student can answer, ask for an explanation, change topic, or stop. Nothing else reaches a language model. Guardian consent is required, and deletion on request is immediate.
Honest state
The engine, session flow and consent gate are built and tested. There are no questions in it yet — that needs a Ghanaian teacher to write items and worked solutions.
